Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during a first visit?

At RecoverED, we understand that taking the first step towards therapy and recovery can be a daunting experience. During your initial therapy visit, you can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where you can openly discuss your concerns. The therapist will go through an assessment to gain a better understanding of your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. The assessment is a crucial part of our process as it helps us tailor a personalized treatment plan to meet your unique needs.

Are counselling sessions covered by insurance?

Services at RecoverED are provided by Registered Social Workers (RSWs) who hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work and are often covered by most insurance companies/plans. Insurance companies may cover all or some of the associated fees of service. We recommend that you contact your insurance company to clarify your coverage if you are unsure.

How do therapy sessions work?

Counselling sessions are 50-minute in length and sessions are offered either at our in-person office or via secure online video counselling. Video counselling has many benefits including convenience, flexibility, and having access to specialized therapists who may not otherwise be available in a given area. During the first session, the therapist will provide information about the therapy process, get to know you, the reasons bringing you to counselling, and what goals you are hoping to accomplish.

How many sessions will I need?

The answer is…it depends! Some clients they feel they’ve gotten what they need after a few sessions, whereas other clients might prefer or require support over a longer period of time. Addressing disordered eating and moving towards recovery can take time so you and your therapist can discuss this over the course of therapy. There is no commitment to attend a set number of sessions and there is no limit on the number of sessions one can attend - you are in the driver’s seat of this process!

Do I need to have a formal eating disorder diagnosis to receive treatment with RecoverED?

No, you do not need a formal diagnosis to receive treatment. If you are struggling in your relationship with food, your concerns are valid with or without a diagnosis and we absolutely encourage you to reach out!

I am a parent to a child/teen who may be struggling with an eating disorder - will I be required to attend sessions?
